BEST OF THE REST
THE TRUTH ABOUT AMAZON Channel 4, 9pm
MANY retailers are struggling in these strange times, but Amazon is still thriving. Are we paying over the odds for one click convenience?
Supershoppers hosts Helen Skelton and Sabrina Grant began making this documentary before social distancing, and finished it during lockdown. So there’s a slightly weird look to the show, but the tips and hacks it offers will be handy for most of us.
For example, don’t assume what you’re buying on Amazon is as much of a bargain as it initially looks.
Experts show shoppers how to use price trackers, barcode scanners and the Amazon app itself to make smarter choices and ensure we’re really getting the best price.
Plus they investigate misleading fake reviews and explore how Alexa stores our data.
Don’t worry, you’re not going to get told off for those midnight sprees. But this programme should save you a few quid one way or another.
YOUR HOME MADE PERFECT
BBC2, 8pm
PAULA and Jeremy love their four-bedroom home in Halifax, but the conservatory isn’t the dream garden room they wanted.
The roof makes it boiling in the summer, freezing in the winter and deafening in the rain, plus it has started leaking.
And since Paula’s MS has started to affect her mobility, the step up into the rest of the house is proving problematic. So while it was once a well-used family room, this is now a largely redundant dust trap for them.
Not to worry though, host Angela Scanlon is on hand with the cavalry: competing designers Laura and Robert. Both have big ideas for the space and present them using the wonders of virtual reality.
But whose vision will inspire this couple and how will the winning design translate into a real-life build?
As always with these shows, there’s a little budget-stretching required, but the final results are stunning.
