Oliver and Lexi’s epic charity challenge
EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Oliver Wilson was cheered up the mountain in the pouring rain by radio breakfast hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden.
He was one of two Welsh youngsters taking part in a fundraising challenge to help raise funds for people hardest hit by coronavirus.
Oliver, from Mountain Ash, and Lexi Coombs, four, from Swansea, were not put off by the heavy rain yesterday morning as they took part in the challenge backed by Heart Breakfast presenters.
Oliver and Lexi, who are both living with cerebral palsy, helped raise money for Cerebral Palsy Cymru.
Oliver was joined by his dad Ryan and family friend Adrian to walk six miles in total, to the top of a mountain near his home and back again. Lexi, with mum Natasha, walked 3km from her home.
Oliver and Lexi are two of Jamie and Amanda’s so-called Charity Challengers – a group of people raising money for an emergency appeal supporting small charities.
Oliver’s dad Ryan said: “If it wasn’t for Cerebral Palsy Cymru we believe as a family that Oliver would never have walked, would never have done anything that he’s done in life.
“He started to play football. Without them we believe he never would have achieved that type of thing.”
Amanda Holden told Lexi and Oliver: “You are both heroes, congratulations on accepting the challenge, and hopefully you’ll raise lots of money. Jamie and I are very proud of you both”
