‘Reminder’ for rugby women over lockdown

-

THE Welsh Rugby Union has reminded players of current lockdown rules after images of three Wales Women’s rugby players appearing to break them emerged on social media.

Photos and video footage of Wales internationals Robyn Lock and Keira Bevan attending the 21st birthday party of team-mate Gwen Crabb on Thursday evening were later posted on Instagram.

The photo, posted on Crabb’s Instagram page, shows the second-row DJing for the party in the foreground with a group of people dancing in the background.

Meanwhile, video footage, posted to a private account of a friend in attendance, shows flanker Lock travelling to the party alongside a friend, before scrum-half Bevan is seen dancing next to Crabb’s boyfriend in what appears to be a gazebo in the garden.

Later on in the video, a group of around eight people can be seen dancing together, appearing to flout social distancing rules by doing so.

In a statement, the Welsh Rugby Union said: “Our women’s performance players have been reminded of the Welsh Government rules currently in place.”

Current Welsh Government lockdown rules allow people to meet outdoors in gardens or parks with just one other household if social distancing of two metres is observed.

The regulations from the Welsh Government say: “Meeting people socially indoors is not allowed under the rules, as it significantly increases the risk of spreading the virus.

“But if two households are meeting in the private garden of one house, visitors can go through the house to reach the garden. You should not stay in the house, or use the kitchen, cutlery or anything else. If you can, you should also avoid touching things indoors, such as light switches and door handles.”

It is understood there were no more than four households in attendance – with Lock and Bevan both travelling from elsewhere.

Since June 19, elite athletes have been able to train – with Crabb, Lock and Bevan understood to be part of a bubble that allows them to train together.
