A REMARKABLE Cardiff woman has celebrated her 105th birthday – having lived through two pandemics and two world wars to reach her milestone celebration.

Margaret Edwards was born in Llandaff in 1915.

A resident at Heol Don Bupa Care Home in Whitchurch, Cardiff, she has survived two pandemics – the first being the Spanish Flu in 1918.

She devoted her life to her family, from helping her father run his solicitor’s business to taking care of her parents in their later years.

She also spent many years volunteering for the NSPCC and delivering books to patients at St David’s Hospital.

A keen pianist and classical music fan, she is still known to play for up to two hours an evening.

To mark her big day, she was joined by staff and fellow residents for an afternoon of tea, cake and Buck’s Fizz, with family and close friends gathering at the window – due to ongoing restrictions – to raise a glass.

She also received another milestone birthday card from the Queen on her July 9 celebration.

Margaret said: “I had a wonderful day. I feel extremely loved and am truly grateful to have such lovely people around me.

“I’d like to thank the team here at Heol Don for making this a special day for me.

“I may be 105 but I am still young at heart and enjoy living life to the full.”

Kate Stephens, manager at Heol Don Bupa Care Home, said: “I’m honoured to have been a part of this incredible lady’s celebrations.

“Here at Heol Don, we believe in helping our residents live longer, healthier, happier lives and Margaret is true testament to that.

“She is so full of life and is a joy to be around, she’s an inspiration to us all.”

Margaret is one of the oldest people in Wales today.

According to records, the oldest man and woman ever to have lived in Wales are believed to be John Evans, of Fforestfach, Swansea, and Jeanetta Thomas, of Cowbridge, who both reached their 112th birthdays.
