Do the continental as main street to become dining hub

-

PEOPLE will soon be able to enjoy al fresco dining in one of Cardiff’s busiest streets in the centre of the city.

Work is under way in Castle Street, which will be transformed into a dining hub with covered seating.

Since July 13, bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants have been able to reopen outdoors following a consistent decline in coronavirus cases across Wales.

Cardiff council previously announced plans for outdoor seating areas to help businesses that still need to follow socialdistancing rules.

Now they have revealed when they hope to have the area in Castle Street ready and how long it will be in operation.

A Cardiff council spokesman said: “If all the materials are delivered by our suppliers on time, the outdoor seating area will be built and complete by July 29 and will initially be in place for two months.

“Further details on how this new outdoor space will be run and managed will be released to the public closer to the opening date.

“In the coming months the council will be reviewing all of the options available for this outdoor space in line with Cardiff’s Recovery Strategy. We will need to continue to have a flexible and responsive approach to the area as we do everything we can to support businesses, whilst following socialdistancing requirements that are defined by the Welsh Government.”

The council said visitors will be able to order food and drinks for delivery from a selection of restaurants and cafes in the city centre via an app.

The council added it was planning more on-street “spill-out spaces” and businesses would be allowed to use the spaces free of charge.
