WEBCHAT New restrictions leave two-thirds of Wales’ population under lockdown

- Clive Richard Sims

People keep blaming the pubs etc and hospitality yet the ones I have been to have all been strict and following government guidelines. Mark Drakeford also said when questioned that he is not shutting them down completely as the evidence they have collected where the clusters have occurred is due to people meeting in each others’ homes and mixing within homes.

Yes, some pubs have been flouting the rules but some people clearly can’t just follow basic rules and have some common sense.

And Drakeford said in an interview he’s not going to lock down all Wales like last time – only one third to go.

I can see why holiday parks are turning people away... those static caravans are lethal Covid breading grounds... not! Sod it, pub it is then.

My kids have to catch a school bus in Swansea with 75 other students but I can’t see my girlfriend – where is the sense in that?

It’s not really lockdown, shops are still open, bars and restaurants are still open pretty much, schools are still open. Theatres and sporting events are properly screwed but there’s no change there. Most of us can probably contract this virus with little consequence, but lots of vulnerable people are scared and, let’s be honest, are you 100% sure that you’re one of the luckier ones?

What good is locking down two-thirds of Wales if day trippers from the English conurbations can simply drive in and assemble (as on Snowdon) without constraint? The government needs to apply border controls to limit movements and heavily fine anyone breaching the constraints.

Also why does Wales have a travel ban, whilst even lockeddown areas in England can travel as far as they want? Drakeford is making us feel like second-class citizens!
