Cardiff target Woodrow to boost their attack options

-

CARDIFF City are interested in signing Barnsley attacker Cauley Woodrow, the Echo has learned.

The Bluebirds are keen to bolster their attacking ranks before Friday’s domestic window closes and have identified Woodrow as a player who could prove a useful addition.

There has been contact between both Cardiff and Barnsley with regards to signing the player on a permanent deal this week.

It is understood that Woodrow fits the bill for the Bluebirds’ recruitment department, given he is 25 and can be deployed either as a striker or in the No.10 position.

Neil Harris has spoken about wanting to add an attacker before Friday’s deadline, with creativity having been a problem.

Cardiff, of course, have Bluebirds favourite Lee Tomlin within their ranks, however, a number of injury flare-ups have prohibited him from gaining regular game time in recent months.

Cardiff are thought to be interested in recruiting a player who can ease the burden on Tomlin. And Woodrow, who is thought to be valued at around £2m, certainly seems an ideal candidate.

The former England youth international, who spent eight years at Fulham before moving north, had a stellar campaign last year, netting 15 goals in 42 appearances for the Tykes.

However, reports linking the Bluebirds with Woodrow’s Barnsley team-mate Alex Mowatt in recent days are understood to be wide of the mark.

The domestic-only transfer window shuts at 5pm on Friday, October 16.
