ITV weather presenter Ruth Dodsworth has spoken out after her ex-husband’s abuse finally came to light.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Jonathan Wignall, 54, made Ms Dodsworth’s life a living hell after controlling every aspect of her life.

The disgraced nightclub boss would frequently attend the studios where she was filming and on location, access her phone messages and mail, stop her from seeing friends and family and even had a tracker fitted to her car.

And that nine-year ordeal had a “devastating impact” on the star’s life as well as career – leaving her drained as well as mentally and physically exhausted.

Wignall was arrested on October 18, 2019, after his behaviour came to a head after calling her more than 150 times during the day and Ms Dodsworth did not return to the family home in Cowbridge for fears for her safety.

Upon being told he was being arrested for harassment the defendant replied: “Harassment? But she’s my wife.”

The full extent of her pain then came to light in a distressing and moving victim impact statement, that was read aloud at Cardiff Crown Court before Wignall was handed a jail term.

Hours later, the mum-of-two bravely released a statement to her fans and followers stating the support she has received this week has been “overwhelming”.

She told people she initially did not want the story to be made public, but said she really hopes it will help other people.

A statement posted by Ms Dodsworth read: “I’d just like to say, from the bottom of my heart – thank you.

“I’m overwhelmed by the love and support. I never wanted my story to be public.

“On reflection I’m glad. Because if just one person can relate, can feel assured that they are not alone, then it has all been worth it.”

Sentencing Wignall in court, Judge Daniel Williams said: “It’s clear you have no remorse for that which you did.

“You seek to justify your actions and in your eyes you have done no wrong and you have no perception to how others may see see you.

“You affect the air of a respectable beleaguered but successful businessman but you are not.

“You are a fantasist with a fragile ego which makes you an unrepentant possessive bully.”

Wignall was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.
