Paedophile sent images and texts to ‘teenager’
A PAEDOPHILE sent explicit messages and photographs to someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, a court heard.
Christopher Williams, 29, believed he was messaging a teenage girl named Ruby when in fact he was talking to an undercover police officer over the course of around a month.
On Tuesday, Cardiff Crown Court heard Williams, from Grangetown, had first messaged the account on August 4, 2020, stating that “she was cute”.
When the officer replied saying they were 13 years old Williams replied that he liked girls “younger than him”.
During the hearing Laurence Jones, prosecuting, said Williams went on to send further messages using chat sites and Google Hangouts saying Ruby looked “hot in her school uniform” and requesting a picture of her in a bikini.
In another message Williams described how he got wanted to “lick melted chocolate” off Ruby’s body and sent her a photo of his penis.
The defendant did not arrangements to meet Ruby, heard.
Williams was arrested on November 11. He admitted messaging the account, adding that he “was in a difficult time in his life and was not thinking about what he was doing”.
“He felt ashamed about what he did, he said, but said he did not have a sexual interest in children,” Mr Jones said.
During the hearing Andrew Robert Taylor, mitigating, described Williams as a man of good character who had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.
It was heard Williams had been make it was
“frank” in admitting what he had done and that he had the continued support of his family and the elders of the Jehovah Witness community around him.
Mr Taylor said: “He is an intelligent man, he went to Manchester University and he obtained a degree. He has a very good work ethic. He still works full-time for a large company in Cardiff. He has held that job for many years, is well-respected, and he wants to keep that job.”
He added: “It looks very much as if this is a one-off and not someone who has an addiction or weakness wanting to go out and speak to very young people.”
Addressing Williams, Recorder IWL Jones described it as a “sad day” to see someone with no previous convictions in the dock but said it was “refreshing to see someone who admits they have a problem”.
He said: “You sent a picture of your erect penis – you intended a 13-yearold girl to see that.”
He added: “You did it all for your own selfish sexual gratification.”
In a previous hearing Williams, of
Ffordd James Mcghan, Grangetown, admitted attempted sexual communication with a child and an attempt to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
On Tuesday, he was handed an eight-month jail sentence which was suspended for two years.
Williams must also complete a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement, complete 100 hours of unpaid work, and pay £500 in costs.
A sexual harm prevention order will remain in existence for the next 10 years.
