No new deaths and only 79 positive cases

WALES has recorded no new coronaviru­s deaths and only 79 positive cases in the latest 48 hours of figures.

The latest update from Public Health Wales (PHW), published yesterday, brings the total number of positive cases since the pandemic began to 211,573. The overall death toll remains at 5,550 in Wales.

The infection rate across the nation now stands at 10.8 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days up to April 26 – a drop from 11.3 on Friday.

The percentage of tests coming back with positive results is now 1.2% – significan­tly below the key benchmark of 5%.

Cardiff reported the most cases yesterday with 13, followed by Swansea with nine, and eight each in Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taf.
