Children’s sleepovers blamed for new cases

-

CHILDREN having sleepovers has been linked to an increase in Covid cases in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RTC).

The council has reminded people that under current restrictions most sleepovers are banned.

Case rates in the local authority currently stood at seven per 100,000 people for the seven days up to April 26, which is a slight rise from 6.6 recorded on Friday.

It led to the local council putting out a warning on social media saying: “We know kids enjoy sleepovers but Covid-19 spreads quickly indoors.

“Recent cases in RCT are linked to sleepovers so if someone doesn’t live with you or isn’t in your support bubble they shouldn’t be inside your house. Covid-19 cases are currently low in RCT, let’s keep it that way.”

Council leader Andrew Morgan said: “We have had a small cluster in the last week which are linked to a sleepover party of children. Numbers are small but today for example [there were] new cases reported whereas last week it was one or two and some days zero.”

Restrictions in Wales had banned indoor meeting but as of yesterday extended households are now possible allowing two households to come together to form an exclusive bubble who can meet and have contact indoors.
