Memorial unveiled to Covid casualties

-

A PLAQUE, right has been unveiled in Maerdy, Rhondda, in memory of those who lost their lives to Covid.

It was unveiled by Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Mayor Susan Morgans, along with Father David, Councillor Jack Harries and other members of the community.

It was created thanks to Fiona Stevens and Sally Stoneham Rogers, who run a local Facebook group, People of Maerdy and Ferndale Gifting Group, and decided to raise funds for the plaque so people who died with the virus are always remembered.

Fiona said it was thanks to the community for giving so many donations over this past year that they have been able to gift hundreds of children Christmas presents and Easter Eggs as well as good parcels for those in need.

Local businesses donated prizes and gifts which were then raffled off to pay for the stone plaque which is on the wall outside Sheppard’s Pharmacy.

Many people in the local community have lost their loved ones to the virus and the plaque is to ensure their lives are never forgotten.
