Two more deaths and 3,200 cases

A FURTHER two people have died with coronaviru­s according to latest figures from Public Health Wales (PHW).

The data published yesterday, also revealed there were 3,200 new positive cases bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 404,844.

The two new additional deaths recorded brings the overall toll within 28 days of a positive Covid test to 6,037 in Wales.

The latest seven-day infection rate across Wales based on the cases for every 100,000 people (seven days up to October 14) now stands at 585.1 – continuing to rise from the 560.4 reported on Monday.

The local authority with the highest infection rate in Wales is now Torfaen with 822.7 cases per 100,000 population over seven days followed by Cardiff with 779.2 and Pembrokesh­ire with 760.6.

Test positivity rates across Wales have risen to 20.1% meaning a fifth of all those getting tests are coming back positive. A quarter of people in Pembrokesh­ire having their test come back positive (25.1%) – the highest of any local authority, with Cardiff not far behind (24.1%).

The areas of the country recording the highest numbers of Covid cases in the latest 24-hour period were Cardiff with 320, Caerphilly with 313, RCT with 304, Newport with 262, Neath Port Talbot with 246, Blaenau Gwent with 180, Torfaen with 155, Pembrokesh­ire with 146, the Vale of Glamorgan with 141, Swansea with 127, Carmarthen­shire with 125, Powys with 121 and Bridgend with 120.

Meanwhile Monmouthsh­ire had 97, Flintshire had 80, Merthyr Tydfil had 70, Gwynedd had 65, Denbighshi­re had 64 and Ceredigion had 51.

The local authoritie­s with the lowest numbers of cases include Wrexham with 47, Anglesey with 37 and Conwy with 36.
