-

WELSH children’s hospice Ty Hafan has announced acclaimed film, TV and stage actor Michael Sheen as the centre’s newest celebrity ambassador.

Multiple award-winner Sheen joins TV presenters Lucy and Rhodri Owen, and Welsh International rugby player Leigh Halfpenny as part of the celebrity ambassador team.

Their role includes advocating for Ty Hafan, celebrating its achievements and encouraging new supporters.

Sheen, father of Lily, 22, and Lyra, two, made his first visit to the hospice in Sully and met some of the children and staff.

Sheen, whose roles have included politician Tony Blair, comic actor Kenneth Williams, TV personality David Frost and football manager Brian Clough, said: “Today is a special day for me because I’m very proud to say that I have just joined Team Ty Hafan as their newest ambassador.

“Ty Hafan children’s hospice provides care and support for hundreds of children with lifelimiting conditions and their families in Wales every year. To have to watch your child deal with a life-limiting condition is unthinkable. I know that Ty Hafan is a total lifeline for the children and families they work with.

“I’ll be doing what I can to support them, including helping them to spread the word about the wonderful work they do in their hospice here in Sully and throughout communities across Wales.”

Ty Hafan chief executive Maria Timon Samra said: “We are honoured that Michael Sheen, a highly respected and very busy actor with a global following, has agreed to join Team Ty Hafan as our newest celebrity ambassador.”
