Return of the king...
BUT WILL THE MADNESS OF NETFLIX’S LOCKDOWN SMASH HIT BE AS GOOD SECOND TIME AROUND?
TIGER KING 2
JOE EXOTIC and his Oklahoma zoo captivated us in lockdown, creating an instant Netflix smash hit.
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, following the life of 58-year-old Joe, had 64 million households hooked in the first month of its release.
Filmed from his exotic animal park, home to more than 230 lions and tigers, it was a barmy world of big cat owners, black market animal trading, dangerous feuds, cradling baby tigers, mauled staff, murder charges, mullets and some cheesy songs.
Now the colourful true crime TV series is back for a second run – and it’s set to be as gripping and bonkers as ever.
The main focus of the first series was the row between Joe and big cat conservationist Carole Baskin, who he accused of killing her missing husband.
Joe is currently in prison, serving a 22-year sentence for a murder-for-hire plot against Baskin and 17 charges of animal abuse.
And if that wasn’t a controversial enough start to a second season, Carole Baskin has taken legal action against Netflix for using footage of her in this new run, and is closing in on ownership of Joe’s disreputable zoo.
The trailer reveals some familiar characters talking about how much life has changed for them since the original series, with Joe complaining that everyone else is out there making money while he is in prison. And we’re told that old enemies and frenemies, including zookeeper Jeff Lowe and businessman James Garretson, return.
But is there really more to say on this headline-grabbing saga, or is this flogging a dead tiger?
