AN INTOXICATED man floored his stepbrother with a punch as well as kicking him and strangling him outside the Wales Millennium Centre.

Kyle Ingram, 32, assaulted Sion Griffiths in Cardiff Bay at around 11.45pm on September 27 after the pair had spent the night drinking heavily.

It began with a punch to the victim’s ribs before he was dragged to the floor and strangled by Ingram for 10 seconds.

The defendant then proceeded to punch him to the head, kick him, and stamp on him.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday heard Mr Griffiths got up off the floor and walked to the rear of the Wales Millennium Centre to take refuge in an alcove but he was pursued by Ingram who then launched another sustained attack.

Prosecutor Nuhu Gobir said: “They then walked up to the bus stop and the defendant punched the victim again, flooring him.

“He got back up but was slammed back down to the floor by the defendant.”

The court heard the police were called but Mr Griffiths refused to cooperate with prosecution.

The attack by Ingram was witnessed by security guards at the Wales Millennium

Centre who caught the incident on CCTV.

Ingram, of Broadwell Close, St Mellons, Cardiff, was arrested and initially denied assault but he later pleaded guilty to assault occasioning ABH.

Judge Timothy Petts told Ingram he would be better dealt with in the community and sentenced him to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to carry out a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement, 120-day alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement, and a 45-day curfew.
