Five more deaths and 2,927 new positive cases in Wales

A FURTHER five people have died with coronaviru­s in Wales according to the latest figures from Public Health Wales.

New data published on Friday, November 26, which covers the 24-hour period up to 9am on November 25, shows the total number of Covid-related deaths in Wales now stands at 6,382.

There were also 2,927 new positive cases recorded in the latest update bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 501,028.

The latest seven-day infection rate across Wales, based on the cases for every 100,000 people (for the seven days up to November 21) now stands at 494.4 - a drop from the 499.9 reported on Thursday.

The local authority with the highest infection rate in Wales remains Gwynedd with 882.3 cases per 100,000 population over seven days followed by Vale of Glamorgan with 656.5 and Monmouthsh­ire with 567.7.

The test positivity rate across Wales is at 17.8%, a fall from the 18% reported on Thursday.

The areas of the country recording the highest numbers of new Covid cases are Cardiff with 322, Gwynedd with 244, Swansea with 201, Vale of Glamorgan with 158, Flintshire with 157, and Newport with 155.

Meanwhile Carmarthen­shire had 146 new cases, RCT had 145, Bridgend had 137, Caerphilly had 132, Wrexham had 131, Torfaen had 125, Powys had 113, and Pembrokesh­ire had 111.

The local authoritie­s with the lowest number of cases were Anglesey with 93, Neath Port Talbot and Conwy both with 90, Denbighshi­re with 77, Monmouthsh­ire with 60, Blaenau Gwent with 52, Merthyr Tydfil with 49, and Ceredigion with 36.

As of November 25 there were 589 people in general and acute hospital beds with coronaviru­s (confirmed, suspected, and recovering), a rise on the 587 reported on November 24. There were 52 people in a ventilated intensive care bed with Covid-19 on November 23, a fall on the 54 reported the day before.

The latest data showed that 2,465,943 people had received one dose of the coronaviru­s vaccine and 2,260,662 had been given both doses.

To date 781,025 people have received their Covid booster vaccine according to PHW, including more than three-quarters of care home residents (79.6%) and over 80s (78.5%), over twothirds of healthcare workers (71.8%) and over half of all care home workers (62.1%).
