Another five deaths and 2,567 new cases in Wales

A FURTHER five people have died with coronaviru­s in Wales, according to the latest figures from Public Health Wales.

New data published yesterday which covers the 24-hour period up to 9am on Friday, shows the total number of Covid-related deaths in Wales now stands at 6,443.

There were also 2,567 new positive cases recorded in the latest update, bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 518,713.

The latest seven-day infection rate across Wales, based on the cases for every 100,000 people (for the seven days up to November 29) now stands at 471.9 – a slight rise from the 469.9 reported on Friday.

The areas of the country recording the highest numbers of new Covid cases in the latest 24-hour period are Cardiff with 340, Caerphilly with 161, Flintshire with 156, RCT with 151, Vale of Glamorgan with 147, Swansea with 145, Pembrokesh­ire with 141, Bridgend with 133, Carmarthen­shire with 122, Newport with 115, Gwynedd with 108 and Powys with 102.

Meanwhile, Neath Port Talbot reported 95 new cases, Wrexham had 93, Conwy had 91, Torfaen had 81, Anglesey had 74, Denbighshi­re had 61 and Blaenau Gwent had 58.

The local authoritie­s with the lowest number of cases were Monmouthsh­ire with 57, Merthyr Tydfil with 45 and Ceredigion with 24.
