Robbers’ threats to vulnerable man

TWO robbers broke into a vulnerable man’s home before repeatedly punching him when he gave them the wrong PIN number to his card.

One of the robbers was heard telling the victim, “Do you want to die in here tonight?”

Macauley Davies, 23, and Bradley Bullock, 26, robbed military veteran Kevin Jones at his home in Newport on August 13, 2020, in a targeted attack. Davies had previously been to the house and knew Mr Jones was vulnerable.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard Davies punched the victim to the face and demanded money and valuables, saying “I’m going to f ****** kill you”.

He took a bank card and demanded a PIN number, so Mr Jones gave him false one.

Prosecutor Matthew Cobbe

said as Davies left the address, Mr Jones tried to escape but found the door had been locked. He shouted to his neighbours for help, and Bullock punched him several times to the head. Davies then arrived back at the house, furious that he had been given a false PIN and punched Mr Jones twice to the eye.

Neighbours heard Mr Jones’ pleas and called the police. Shortly later officers forced entry to the home, stopping the robbers in their tracks.

Both Davies and Bullock were arrested and interviewed but made no comment.

The court heard the defendants carried out a burglary in Newport on the same night of the robbery and kicked down the door of the victim’s flat.

Davies, of St Andrews’ Place, Newport, and Bullock, of Stelvio Park Court, Newport, both pleaded guilty to robbery and burglary. Bullock was also found guilty of rape, sexual assaults and threats to kill in a separate matter.

Davies was sentenced to a total of six years’ imprisonment. Bullock was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, with an extended four years on licence.
