Man hospitalis­ed with burns following blaze at property

ONE man was taken to hospital by air ambulance after suffering burns following a house fire on the weekend.

Crews were called to a property in the Brookside area of Cwmbran on Saturday afternoon after a fire broke out on the first floor of a property, South Wales Fire and Rescue said.

Crews from Cwmbran, Malpas, and New Inn were sent in response to the incident.

A spokespers­on said: “On attendance, crews were met with a sever fire in the first floor of a terraced property.

“Crews with breathing apparatus entered the property and quickly brought the fire under control.”

The spokespers­on added that crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the first floor of the property.

A male casualty was taken to hospital by air ambulance after suffering burn injuries following the incident.

The fire service said a fire investigat­ion is being carried out at the property and advised communitie­s to have an escape plan in the event of a fire and to test smoke alarms.
