24 MICKY THOMAS

MIDFIELD CAPS 51 1976-86 GOALS 4

-

Where do you begin with the story of a true Welsh footballing icon?

Micky started with home-town club Wrexham and also starred at the highest club level with Manchester United and Chelsea, among his other clubs.

Worked his socks off up and down the left flank for club and country, but also possessed the craft to create and score goals at key moments – including one against England.

Perhaps if there’s a mild criticism, it’s that a player of Thomas’ talent should have bagged more Wales goals.

A laugh-a-minute character, he always played with a smile on his face – and had a whole plethora of brilliantly funny tales to tell you off the field, too. What a legend.

His back story is well known and he remains an icon among many Man Utd fans, still providing regular commentary on games at Old Trafford.
