Weather warning for more heavy rain today

MORE heavy rain is on the way for parts of Wales today with the Met Office issuing a weather warning.

It is predicting that up to 50mm of rain could fall in a short period of time in certain areas.

The yellow alert is in place from midnight until 1pm.

It says: “A band of rain will move east across southern parts of Wales and England during Tuesday morning.

“Some of the rain will be heavy, with 15-30 mm of rain falling widely and as much as 40-50 mm over parts of Dartmoor and south facing high ground of southern Wales and the Marches and over some parts of southern England.”

The areas covered by the warning in Wales include Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthsh­ire, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taf, and Vale of Glamorgan.

The Met Office forecast for Wales is showing an unsettled week with temperatur­es returning to what they should be for the time of year after an exceptiona­lly mild weekend.

Porthmadog saw temperatur­es of 21.20C, making it the warmest place in the UK and hottest Remembranc­e Sunday on record.

The outlook for the rest of the week says: “A wet morning on Tuesday with heavy and persistent rain developing for many.

“Brighter skies in the southwest by lunchtime with sunnier weather developing for many during the afternoon. Feeling cooler. “Maximum temperatur­e 130C. “Changeable with bands of rain and heavy showers interspers­ed by drier and sunnier periods from Wednesday to Friday.

“Very windy at times and feeling cooler with temperatur­es much closer to the seasonal average.”
