Man charged after two suffer stab wounds

A MAN has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after a man and woman were taken to hospital with stab wounds.

South Wales Police say that detectives investigat­ing a serious assault which occurred in the Penydarren area of Merthyr Tydfil on Sunday have charged a 52-year-old man.

Patrick Shaw, of Penydarren, was due to appear before Merthyr Magistrate­s’ Court yesterday.

A spokespers­on for the force said at the time of the incident that they were called to a property on Brynmorlai­s Street, Penydarren, in Merthyr Tydfil at 8.30am on Sunday.

As part of the initial appeal, Detective Inspector Philip Dallyn said: “Given the time of day this incident occurred I’m sure there will be people who witnessed events leading up to and after the incident.

“I would urge them, along with any road users in the vicinity of Brynmorlai­s Street, the Castle Hotel or Wetherspoo­ns on High Street, who may have dashcam footage between 8.25am and 10am this morning, to come forward and speak to us.

“Enquiries into the full circumstan­ces of the incident are continuing including house to house and CCTV enquiries.”
