Canadian military ship docked in Cardiff Bay

-

A MASSIVE Canadian ship is currently docked in Cardiff.

HMCS Montreal, a Halifax-class frigate, is visiting the Port of Cardiff, an Associated British Ports port next to the Cardiff Bay Trail.

The ship has been in Cardiff since Monday and will remain in port until tomorrow.

Previously, she has been deployed on anti-terrorism missions in Europe, and has been involved in Nato missions too.

She has been in service since the 1990s and this week was seen in the dock by some keen ship spotters.

Other ships have been seen visiting Cardiff in recent months, including an Irish warship spotted in Cardiff Bay in July.

The Port of Cardiff is one of the UK’s major ports and supports 2,600 jobs nationally according to the ABP. It handles around 1.8m tonnes of cargo and over £400m of trade each year.

HMCS Montreal’s homeport is CFB Halifax in Nova Scotia. Her operational weight is 4795 tons, and she’s over 130m long.

She is the third Canadian Royal Navy unit to bear the name Montreal.
