Man arrested on suspicion of arson after fire

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a house fire in the Rhymney Valley.

Emergency services were called to a property on Ael y Bryn, Hengoed, in the early hours of Wednesday, November 16.

Gwent Police confirmed that they received a call at 4.40am about the incident. Park Road, the main road through the village near the train station, was closed for several hours while the police and fire service dealt with the incident.

Police initially asked people to avoid the area while work continued.

Nobody was injured in the blaze but a man has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

A spokespers­on for South Wales Fire and Rescue team said: “At approximat­ely 04:46 on

Wednesday, November 16, we received reports of a domestic fire in Hengoed.

“Crews from Aberbargoe­d, Caerphilly and Pontypridd stations attended the scene assisting South Wales Police. Firefighte­rs used specialist equipment, including breathing apparatus, seven-metre ladder and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. A stop message was received at 06:57.”
