ONE LAST THING
I love a good gadget but the world seems to have gone air-fryer crazy. You can’t move for stories about them in the press and among my friends; how they save energy and produce perfect mid-week roasties, how lovely a chicken done in one comes out.
They’re even being re-sold at double their face value online, such is the demand. A bit like Peter Kay tickets except he brings unalloyed joy while air fryers, to me at least, just bring stress.
Do they really cook food as well as an oven? Will it burn the house down if I accidentally leave it plugged in? And crucially – will I still be using it a year from now?
As a poor cook, I have form for getting over-excited by kitchen gadgets which might give lie to the fact I can burn water. An air fryer might be just the thing.
Then again, it might join the juicer and bread-maker at the back of the cupboard.
