Lights on please, they can afford it

-

IT WILL surprise no-one that Labour-led Caerphilly Council has refused to accept the recommendations of the environmental and sustainability scrutiny committee, asking for a review of Labour’s lights-out policy to ensure that public safety is not compromised.

The committee asked the council to adopt a measured approach, where street lighting is switched back on in areas affected by antisocial behaviour, and not a draconian one-size-fits-all approach.

Even Labour’s police and crime commissioner, along with several Labour councillors, has asked the council to think again and stop putting the public at risk.

Does Labour believe that a few lights being switched on here and there is going to bankrupt the council or increase CO2 emissions, when Caerphilly has more money in reserves than any local authority in Wales (£118m), with Labour claiming that all street lighting is powered by renewables?
