Principled Cymru is an example to all in Qatar

-

I SUSPECT that I am not the only Welsh person with a Qatar World Cup dilemma. Team Cymru and its Wal Goch have done superbly in getting there. But the country is run by a regime which is not worthy of the competition or our team or our wider support.

The time to rail against Qatar being awarded this event, however, passed a decade and more ago. Our team is there now and surely must get our full-throated, unconditional backing.

Our political and sporting administrators must go too. But our representatives in Qatar (including the impressive Laura McAllister who knows football and politics) must, whenever and wherever they can, make clear to all that Cymru is a dignified, beautiful, diverse, cultured, educated, welcoming, fair cymuned (community) in contrast and comparison to Qatar.

That way Cymru can take its place and sell itself on the world stage in both a positive and principled way and we can cheer the team to the rafters in good faith.

It won’t do our chances of hosting (with beer) the 2028 Euros any harm either.

Ymlaen Cymru!
