Free Wi-Fi to be rolled out in several towns

-

BRIDGEND County Council has announced it will be providing free Wi-Fi access to locals in a number of town centres across the borough this month in a bid to increase connectivity among residents, businesses, and visitors.

The free service will now be rolled out to locals in Bridgend, Porthcawl, Maesteg, and Pencoed town centres.

The launch of the service took place at Beat Bakehouse and coffee store in Station Hill Bridgend last week, with Labour council leader Huw David in attendance.

For residents or visitors to connect to the free Wi-Fi in these areas people will need to search their Wi-Fi network settings for “BCBC free Wi-Fi” and then enter their email address to get started.

Cllr Neelo Farr, cabinet member for regeneration who was also in attendance at the launch, said it was a positive step for residents.

She said: “Free Wi-Fi is another positive investment in the county borough as it will help to encourage residents to spend local and visit our towns for longer periods whilst taking advantage of the wide variety of businesses on offer.

“Consumer habits are changing and the ability to operate in a more digitally-focused way will support local businesses to engage with a wider range of customers.

“This investment once again demonstrates our commitment to all of our town centres and I’m sure the community will benefit as a whole.”
