ASK DIARMUID

QCan you help me to cure this problem? Our lawn has black dead patches. Firstly, it starts going brown and then black. We look after our lawn and have fed it well.

Shirley Fisher

AHi Shirley. It looks like patches of your lawn are suffering from a fungal disease which is causing them to blacken and die.

Your lawn may have been under stress with drought conditions, leaving it vulnerable to disease.

I would advise removing the dead grass and aerating the area, removing plugs of soil.

Then top-dress the affected areas – you can buy a ready mix or make your own with a mix of topsoil and some silver sand for drainage.

In spring, sow fresh seed to cover bare patches. Diarmuid
