TV PICKS OF THE WEEK
POINTLESS CELEBRITIES Tonight, BBC1, 5.30pm
In October, the BBC brought us a season of programmes to mark its centenary, but it seems the celebrations haven’t completely finished. Tonight, Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman (who has stepped down from the teatime version of the long-running quiz, but still pops in for the celebrity version) begin a new series with their own tribute to the Beeb.
There are some broadcasting icons among the contestants as Tony Blackburn, Scott Mills, Maggie Aderin-Pocock, Chris Lintott, Peter Purves, Lindsey Russell, Shanequa
Paris, Mobeen Ahzar and Floella Benjamin do their best to come up with the most obscure to questions that have been previously posed to a cross-section of the public.
I’M A CELEBRITY... GET ME OUT OF HERE! FINAL Tomorrow, ITV, 9pm
This year’s edition of the survival challenge will perhaps be most remembered for the involvement of
Matt Hancock. When the MP and former health secretary arrived in the jungle a few days in, it didn’t sit well with many viewers and most of the campmates. But the move certainly gave the show’s ratings a boost. Tonight sees the final of the 2022 series as Ant and Dec reveal who the public have chosen to be the new King or Queen of the Jungle.
SECRETS OF THE MIDDLE AISLE
Monday, Channel 4, 8pm
A trip to Lidl or Aldi isn’t complete without a trip down the middle aisle,
where one-off bargains can often be found. But why do customers continue to fall for the items available?
Denise Van Outen aims to find out by investigating the psychological strategies employed by various companies which force us into believing that if we don’t bag an item while we can, we’ll be missing out.
THE TRAITORS Tuesday, BBC1, 9.30pm
Strictly’s Claudia Winkleman hosts this new game show, which has been filmed in a
castle in the Scottish Highlands.
At the start of the game, three players are secretly selected by Claudia to be the Traitors. The contestants then work together to complete physical and mental missions and add money to a prize pot, which can be worth up to £120,000. But to win the prize pot, the ‘Faithful’ players must survive to the end of the game and avoid being ‘murdered’ or ‘banished’ by the Traitors.
At the end of the game, the remaining players will share the prize pot if they are all Faithful – but if there is a Traitor among them, they will take it all.
ADRIAN DUNBAR: MY IRELAND Wednesday, Channel 5, 8pm
The short but sweet series concludes as the Line of Duty star explores Ireland’s Ancient East, a land of myths and legends.
He begins in the Boyne Valley, home of Newgrange, one of the world’s most important Neolithic sites. Chef Tom Kerridge also shows Dunbar around his 18th century estate before treating him to brunch.
FOOD UNWRAPPED’S NORDIC ADVENTURE
Thursday, Channel 4, 8pm
Jimmy Doherty and Briony May
Williams are getting wrapped up in their best knitwear for a trip around the Nordic countries that gave us noir crime drama, Santa Claus and, most importantly for their purposes, some great food. They begin in western Norway finding out how cod farming could also be the future for Britain, before calling in at a certain well known Swedish furniture store to learn the secrets of their meatballs.
STRICTLY COME DANCING: MUSICALS SPECIAL
Friday, BBC1, 8pm
Do not adjust your set – Strictly really is going out live on Friday (blame the World Cup). It’s not just dance fans who will be feeling bamboozled – some of the celebrities may also be feeling the effects of having one less day to train. If that wasn’t enough pressure, it’s also the quarter finals.
