LGBTQ+ exhibition heading to Cardiff Bay
A NEW exciting museum exhibition is coming to Cardiff.
Hosted at the Wales Millennium Centre, the LGBTQ+ virtual reality experience is the first of its kind, celebrating the artwork and stories of queer people from all over the world and of all walks of life.
Created by Bristol-based XR expert Antonia Forster, who used her experience from the backlash of coming out as LGBT+, the exhibition runs from December 9 to 19.
The world’s first LGBTQ+ VR museum contains 3D scans of emotive real-life objects - from wedding shoes to a teddy bear - chosen by people in the LGBTQ+ community, accompanied by their story in their own voice.
The gallery showcases 2D illustrations and artwork by queer creators all over the world. Guests wear a VR headset. The LGBTQ+ VR Museum recently won a New Voices Award.
According to information on the WMC’s website, “spectacles may be worn under the VR headset however it may be more comfortable to wear contact lenses or go without your glasses for the experience”.
Antonia discovered that lack of exposure to queer stories is a strong predictor of homophobia and created a cutting-edge virtual reality project to address this.
