New cafe planned for city suburb

-

CARDIFF Council has approved planning permission for converting three ground floor units on Cathedral Road in Pontcanna into a large cafe or coffee shop.

The transformation of the ground floor of 5-7 Avalon House, Cathedral Road was given planning permission earlier in November. The property will now be turned into a 129-square-foot cafe or coffee shop, with indoor seating for up to 50 people and extra seats outside.

Celtic Energy, the company developing the coffee shop, is now looking to find a tenant to move in and run the shop.

Adam Pearce, estates manager at Celtic Energy, said: “We are delighted that Cardiff Council has recently approved our planning application to the property at 5-7 Cathedral Road.

“We are hugely excited about this development and are now engaging with local businesses and agents so that we can secure a suitable tenant that will benefit this area of Cathedral Road.”

The road has a long history, having originally been used to link two farms together. It’s now become one of the capital’s more sought-after addresses.

In the past few years it’s been a focal point for high end apartments being developed, and there are a number of office buildings situated on the street.
