Rent rise will affect working tenants

-

LABOUR-LED Caerphilly council’s decision to increase council house rents by a massive 6.5% (£317.20p) a year will have a devastating effect on the 22% of council tenants who work, and are not in receipt of benefits.

The council has stated that the extra revenue will be used for repairs, however, Caerphilly council housing stock has recently had a massive £270m spent on it via the Welsh housing quality standard programme.

It appears that Labour have little regard or concern for tenants who are working, and like everyone else are struggling to make ends meet in these difficult times, an increase of £317.20 a year will result in real hardship for working people that have already seen the costs of going to work increase.
