Elite retain Premier Division title as rivals run out of matches
Lazarou Cardiff Sunday Football League
CONGRATULATIONS go to Elite Eleven who have been confirmed as Coors Premier Division champions for the second successive season following Sunday’s results.
Due to the fixture backlog as a consequence of the wet weather, some fixtures are being played as double headers to ensure that the League can complete the season.
Although Elite didn’t play, the only team previously able to catch them were Penarthinaikos, but they lost their double header with Saints by two respective 3-0 scorelines.
The Saints wins saw them march up into second place in the table and pus Penarthinaikos down to fourth place.
Just a point behind the Saints, are Cardiff Hibernian Old Boys who completed a double over Fred with a 4-2 victory.
Hibernian took the lead after twenty minutes when a shot from Dontay Campbell was deflected into the net.
Fred came back and equalised after thirty eight minutes with a long ball over the top.
Hibernian regained the lead with a header from Dan Puckey who was making his debut.
However, once again, Fred bounced back and caught Hibernian on the break to level the score at 2-2 at half-time.
The pitch was poor for passing football, but twenty minutes into second-half Josh Evans managed to slot home.
Ten minutes later, Christopher Quick was brought down in the box and David Tudor converted from the spot to seal a 4-2 win for Hibernian.
The battle for runners-up spot looks like it will be closely contested between Saints, Cardiff Hibernian and Penarthinaikos.
Rumney Dragons are the new leaders of the Everson Sports and Trophies First Division after their double 9-1 wins over Michaelston Rangers. George Jones and Joseph Kuwale netted two goals apiece for the Dragons, with further goals coming from Tyron Lavinaro, Jamie Lewis, Same Roberts, Luke Sweet and Christopher Worsley.
In the two matches between Radyr Rangers and Grawen Arms, the first game was drawn 0-0, but Grawen Arms went on to win the second match by 3-1.
Iwan Jones netted a brace for Grawen, which was added to by Daniel Jehu.
Cardiff Gate Systems moved up into third spot following their 6-2 win over Cardiff Continental.
Macauley Coombes and Tiago Pinto netted two goals apiece for Gate Systems, with Jason Lukins and Ryan Mears also on target. Joshua Toomey replied with both of the Continental goals.
Cardiff Dons moved up level on points with Fairwater at the top of the Honestman4hire Second Division following their double 6-1 wins over Golden Lion at Sevenoakes.
The twelve goals provide the Dons with a big goal boost and amazingly, they now have the same goal difference of +26 with Fairwater.
Jake Regan and Joab Smith hit two goals apiece for the Dons, while further goals came from Finlay Buttle and Callum Flynn.
The Golden Lion netted a consolation goal through Jonathan McCarthy.
With two games in hand on Cardiff Dons, Fairwater remain favourites to lift the Divisional title.
At the other end of the table, Cardiff Dragons moved above East Cardiff Dragons after a 5-3 victory over East Cardiff.
Cardiff Dragons goals came from Scott Richards (2), Calum Harris, Caleb Jones and Martyn Lazenby, while East Cardiff Dragons replied through Paul Robins (2) and Joseph Folland.
