FAW give Page the green light to carry on despite Euro exit

ROB Page will continue as Wales boss despite the national team failing to reach the Euro 2024 finals.
Some Welsh supporters had called for Page to leave his post after his side missed out on the Euros following an agonising penalty shootout defeat by Poland in Cardiff on Tuesday night.
However, Football Association of Wales president Steve Williams has quickly responded to such calls, insisting Page, who has two more years left on his contract, will continue in his post.
Williams said, according to the BBC: “The FAW can confirm Rob Page is their manager for the forthcoming campaign in accordance with his contract.
“Rob is the manager.
“His contract runs to the end of the World Cup and that is how we continue to work.”
After losing to the Poles, Page insisted this group of young players were just on the beginning of their journey and he believes he is the right man to lead them.
Page’s contract takes him up to the 2026 World Cup, with the qualification campaign for that beginning on March 2025.
Wales begin their Nations League campaign in Turkey this September.
The FAW will still conduct a full review of Wales’ qualification campaign, however it appears the nuclear option of sacking the manager for failing to qualify is now off the table.
Page said: “We’ve got games in June and we’ve got the Nations League in the autumn, then start of the World Cup qualifying campaign.
“That’s my full focus. Building on what we’ve already started, and the transition we’re in at this moment in time.
“I just know I’ve got a good group of players. Great staff and we’re going on the right path.
“There’s younger players to be introduced to this group as well. That’s my next aim.
“We haven’t got there this time, but now with the games in June, we can use it to start introducing a couple of the younger players and build on what we’ve got here.
“We’re a good group and we’re going places.
“It’s nice to be around.”
