Other neighbours don’t compare to Wynne’s

-

CELEBRITY MasterChef champion Wynne Evans has praised his neighbours as “brilliant” for putting up with his home antics as Gio Compario for the Go Compare adverts - which he previously revealed he sometimes films at home.

The 52-year-old star, who was born in Carmarthen, discussed what life was like at home in Cardiff.

When asked about whether he had any “irritating neighbours”, Wynne replied: “Thankfully not. My current neighbours are brilliant. I’ve shot a lot of Go Compare ads in my home.

“Whenever a neighbour has been mowing the lawn and I’ve asked them to stop until I’ve finished filming, they’ve always obliged.”

Elsewhere in his interview with The Times, Wynne revealed his favourite thing about living in his current house.

“I can jump on the train at Llandaff railway station and be at work at the BBC in central Cardiff in about 10 minutes,” he said.

“It’s also great for getting into town on [rugby] international days. Moreover, there are some lovely old man pubs - I don’t like pubs with music - nearby where I can get a Double Dragon beer.

“There are excellent restaurants like Pizzeria Villagio, a family-run eaterie in

Whitchurch, which serves super pizzas. Lastly, I’ve got the beautiful Hailey Park and the River Taff, where you can paddleboard, on my doorstep. I’m very happy here.”

Wynne splits his time between his Cardiff home, a second home in west Wales and a flat in London.

He said: “I bought a threebedroom cottage in west Wales, where I grew up, for £150,000 in 2019. I pop down there a couple of weekends a month.

“It’s such a beautiful part of the world. I also have a flat in London but I’m in the process of selling it.”

Delving more into work he’s done on his Cardiff house, he added: “I must have spent around half a million pounds making it habitable for me, my daughter Ismay, 21, and son Taliesin, 19.

“I’ve had all the stained-glass windows re-leaded, every room re-wired and re-plumbed, and I also put in new bathrooms and a kitchen. I’ve had to get a new everything.

“I’ve also added a rear extension, a little gym and a hot tub room. I think of it as the house that Gio Compario helped rebuild.”

Aside from his TV work and successful singing career, Wynne also hosts a show on BBC Radio Wales from Monday to Friday.
