Morgan is on song as ex-champs ease home

FORMER champions St Fagans got their South Wales Premier Cricket League season off to the perfect start with a 154run win at Bridgend Town.

St Fagans were all out for 237 after they recovered from 37-4.

Rhodri Lewis top-scored with a blistering 84 that featured seven sixes and six boundaries.

Jacob Blades added an unbeaten 46. Tom Pearce took 3-38 for the home side.

Bridgend look their first two wickets with just three on the board and never recovered as they were dismissed for 83.

Owen Morgan returned the excellent figures of 5-17.

Swansea got the defence of their title under way in fine style with a 127-run victory over Cardiff at St Helen’s.

Opener Kurtis Marsh scored 56 for the home side as they battled to 202-9 in 39 overs.

Greg Holmes took 4-25 for Cardiff and Sam Mills 3-25.

Cardiff then collapsed to 75 all out in the 30th over. Daniel Rowe took 3-3.

Three games were cancelled. They were the clashes between Ammanford and Usk, Neath and Newport and Pentyrch and Pontarddul­ais.

Only one game was given the goahead in Premier Division 2. That saw Abergavenn­y defeat Cowbridge by two wickets.

Ali Haider scored a fluent 41 as Cowbridge were all out for 179.

Tim Moses offered good support with 38, while Sam Clarke took 3-43.

Abergavenn­y were indented to a stand of 64 between Tom Pipe (38) and Jack Ryan (33) as they edged home with three overs to spare.

Salman Saeed claimed 3-28 for Cowbridge.

The pick of this Saturday’s games sees Swansea make the trip to St Fagans in a game which could have a major bearing on the destinatio­n of the title, even at this early stage of the season.

Another game to look out for is the clash between Newport and Ammanford, who have added talented Australian batter Stephan Muller to their ranks this summer.
