COASTAL CHARMER

- JO RIDOUT Property Editor joanne.ridout@walesonline.co.uk

THERE are some roads that hug the coast of Wales that many people would consider prime locations to call home and most are lined by houses with huge windows, balconies and multiple places to feel as connected to their special sea view as possible.

At the end of a small and peaceful cul-de-sac a huge house is hiding that can boast a choice of special spots to feel connected to the sea view both inside and out.

Built in the 1950s and extended over the years to optimise the view and create open, social spaces and a trio of balconies the house can happily boast a prime spot in Springfield Avenue, Porthcawl.

From the garden terrace that wraps around the house the view across Locks Common to Rest Bay and the rugged coastline is absorbing and it’s also the perfect place to enjoy and share al fresco dining experiences and host memorable parties. As the four-storey house soars into the blue sky the balconies begin to appear.

There’s a sizeable first-floor terrace off the principal bedroom, which boasts an en suite and dressing room, and two triangular terraces on the top floor off a bedroom which can also boast an en suite and dedicated dressing area.

Walks along the common and wandering down to the beach at Rest Bay are made effortless by direct access from the garden and the town centre and famous Royal Porthcawl Golf Club are walkable too.

The front door is in an elevated position as the house can boast a basement that is currently used as a gym but could also make an impressive home cinema or a guest bedroom, if there is a window inside the space, or a hidden lounge that’s perfect as a teenager den.

Inside the house is open, light and airy with clever designs such as one of the hall walls being replaced by a glass panelled wall and internal glass doors to share light and views across the first level of reception rooms.

The heart of the home is the kitchen-lounge-diner that sprawls from the front to the back of the house. The main lounge-diner is angled, as is the substantial rear extension, to enjoy an uninterrupted view of the sea plus seamless flow out onto the garden terrace.

The two upper floors offer a stunning principal bedroom suite with terrace and four further double bedrooms and two more outdoor terraces.
