Chloe’s career is icing on the cake
A SELF-TAUGHT baker has turned her hobby into a full-time job, and now produces amazing children’s cakes.
Chloe Davies, aged 22, owner of Cake Box in Llandarcy, specialises in cakes for all occasions, as well as cupcakes and cheesecakes.
Some of her cake flavours include salted caramel, raspberry and white chocolate, peanut butter, and chocolate orange.
She said: “Baking has been a passion of mine since a very young age. My nan and my mum baked and because I’ve always wanted to be more like them, I started to bake as soon as I was old enough.
“At Christmas-time and for birthdays I would always make cakes for my family. As a teenager, I would ‘stress bake’ every time I had a bad day at school.
“It was not until I was a bit older that I realised it was something I turned to when I was happy and sad. It has always been my go-to. It’s why I love my job.”
Chloe says she gets inspiration for her designs, which include characters from the Teletubbies and Paw Patrol, by “going with the flow”.
She said: “Once I have a theme in mind I tend to just go for it. I’ve never really planned it too much, I prefer to design as I go along. I try to think of everything that could possibly fit on the cake and go from there.
“Then when I’m decorating I have always found that I come up with my best designs this way. I’ve primarily taught myself as I’ve gone along. I like to learn new skills and experiment with baking. The women in my family have always had a taste for baking and it certainly rubbed off on me growing up.
“Teaching myself to bake has allowed me to create my own designs and put together my own creations. Since expanding my company I’ve taken courses on intricate cake design techniques to make sure that I’m always challenging myself with my designs.”
Despite being a fan of the Great British Bake Off, Chloe says she won’t be applying to appear on the show just yet.
“I’m not very confident in front of a camera so I’m holding off from that at the moment but I love the show. Maybe in a couple of years,” she said.
