Crash fears after drivers ‘ignore limit’
SPEEDING drivers are flouting a 20mph limit in Grovesend – sparking fears of a major accident.
Talks have been held between residents, political leaders and police to tackle the issue in a bid to crackdown on speeding through the village.
Action has been taken to deal with motorists by imposing a speed limit of 20mph through the village from Coalbrook Road, High Street and much of Pentre Road.
But residents fear it’s not enough as drivers are ignoring the limit.
Gower MP Tonia Antoniazzi staged the meeting with representatives from South Wales Police along with the community and county councillors Andrew Stevens and Jan Curtice after the issue was raised by several residents at a surgery in Pengelli Miners Welfare Hall.
She said: “I’ve had so many residents speak to me worried that the 20mph limit by the school and through the village is being ignored.
“The speed limit is 20mph for a reason and the situation cannot just be ignored until someone gets hurt or there is a serious accident.
“I’m glad that residents, the local councillors Jan and Andrew, and South Wales Police, have met with us to discuss the next steps in reducing speed through the village.”
Residents, local representatives and South Wales Police met in Grovesend to discuss how to resolve persistent speeding through the village.
