BOY, 11, INJURED IN COLLISION

A ROAD was closed after a child was hit by a car in Loughor.

The 11-year-old was hurt in a collision with a Citroen C3 car on the A4240 and was taken to Morriston Hospital with head injuries.

Police closed the road and drivers were warned to avoid the area. Officers cordoned off the Citroen vehicle in the closed section of road.

Sergeant Andy Hawkins of South Wales Police said a single vehicle was in collision with an 11-year-old boy.

He added yesterday afternoon: “The call came in at 3.28pm.

“The child is receiving treatment at Morriston Hospital. The air ambulance was called but the child was taken to hospital by land. The circumstan­ces are currently being investigat­ed.”

A spokesman for South Wales Police said yesterday: “We are at the scene of a road traffic collision on Oakleigh Road to Pengry Road involving a vehicle and a male pedestrian. Wales Air Ambulance and Welsh Ambulance Service assisted at the scene, and a male pedestrian has been conveyed to hospital with head injuries.

“The road is currently closed, and we’re asking the public to avoid the area while we deal with this incident.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said they had sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the accident scene.

The road re-opened just after 8pm last night.
