Learn to live with dogs they aren’t going away

-

IN answer to the anonymous letter headed “Keep dogs under more control on the beaches” (Post, Monday), I have some points to make.

In reply, I would say we have been very much looking forward to the return of our dogs being allowed on Swansea beaches, and we shall continue to do so each and every year.

Obviously the letter writer or writers are not “dog” people, as the letter seems to exude distaste at any dog being near them or their children.

If this is the case, then I advise them to make a massive sandpit in their garden and enjoy lovely picnics there.

Dogs and their owners being made to stay at the water’s edge on beaches is a ludicrous suggestion.

If they have the time, I suggest the letter writer and their family visit each and every beach along the Gower coastline and take pictures of all the mess left and washed up due to human laziness.

Take photographs of the plastic in its many forms, bottles, fishing lines, waste paper, and much more.

I would think that after viewing all this human refuse on our beautiful beaches your next letter might suggest stopping parents and their children visiting beaches during the summer months.

As you know, this isn’t going to happen, so for goodness’ sake wise up and learn to live with our dogs, because without them during the wars many more of our men and women would have died, and even today in Afghanistan these intelligent animals are saving people’s lives on a daily basis.

And finally, I believe if you have the courage to write such a letter, you should also have the courage to put your name to it. JAMES DEAN via email
