Food business takes away leading award

-

A CHINESE takeaway in Swansea has been named the best in Wales at a national awards ceremony.

The Golden Dragon on Danygraig Road in Port Tennant was crowned the winner at this week’s British Takeaway Awards 2018, held at The Savoy in London.

The family business, which has been a fixture in the Port Tennant area for more than a decade, fought off competition from fellow finalists Wok In A Box in Pontypridd, Swansea’s Touchline Cafe and 2017 winner Cafe Wiwo Noodle bar in Cathays.

Its owners take home £5,000 in prize money to go with the award.

Each finalist was shortlisted as having received the highest amount of public votes, while the ultimate say fell to a panel of judges which included restaurant industry innovator and former star of BBC Two’s Dragon’s Den Sarah Willingham and UK managing director of Just Eat Graham Corfield.

The BTAS, which are run in association with online food delivery service Just Eat, recognise small and often family-run businesses.

The Golden Dragon was also nominated in the Golden Chopstick Awards earlier this year.

“Making it to the list of the top takeaways in Wales is a great achievement as it means customers believe they are providing great food and excellent customer service,” said Graham Corfield.

“With competition at such a high, it was a difficult choice picking a worthy winner.”
