RESIDENTS in Briton Ferry say they are worried over a couple who have been knocking on people’s doors late in the evening.

Many residents in the area reported having knocks on their doors over the weekend, and, in particular, on Saturday night.

Demi Wood, of Ritson Street, said a woman knocked on their door at around 9pm on Saturday.

The woman asked if she could borrow a phone to use it as a torch after having dropped her own, Ms Wood added.

After Ms Wood refused to give her a phone, the woman went on to knock on her neighbour’s door, and then a few more.

Ms Wood continued: “I thought it was a bit scary.

“I have two young children – I would be so scared if someone broke into our house.”

Ms Wood claimed she had first seen the same woman a few days before after she had knocked on her door asking for an old washing machine they had in their garden, which had been covered up.

“It is quite worrying, knowing they could come back any time,” she said.

Claire Hampson, a resident of Gethin Street, said someone tried to open their front door at around 10pm on Saturday.

She said: “We always keep it [the front door] locked because my threeyear-old can open it and run out. We didn’t see anyone afterwards, but I felt scared and worried as my boy was sleeping upstairs.

“Hopefully it won’t happen again.”

Writing on social media, one resident said there was a woman knocking on doors in Regent Street, with another resident said they banged on her window and woke up her baby.

Police have said they are aware of reports of suspicious individuals calling at addresses in the Briton Ferry area on Saturday.

A spokeswoman said: “Residents are reminded to ensure their properties are kept secure at all times, even when occupied, and to be cautious of strangers calling unannounced.

“Suspicious activity should be reported via 101, or 999 in an emergency.”
