CONNOR: FOCUS IS ALL ON GAMES - NOT TALKS

- IAN MITCHELMORE ian.mitchelmore@mediawales.co.uk

CONNOR Roberts admits he’s solely focused on continuing his fine form with Swansea City and Wales amid speculation surrounding his future at the Liberty Stadium.

The right-back has enjoyed a tremendous 2018/19 campaign with both club and country so far, being a regular under both Graham Potter and Ryan Giggs.

However, the 23-yearold’s future has been the hot topic of discussion recently given that his contract with Swansea expires at the end of the current campaign.

Reports in the national media this week suggested that the top brass at the Liberty would cash in on the academy product in January.

And when asked if he’s any closer to following in the footsteps of the likes of Joe Rodon, Matt Grimes and Jay Fulton - who have all recently penned new deals with the Swans – Roberts responded: “I’ve got to keep on performing well on the pitch for club and country, that’s my job.

“I’ve got representatives who will support me off the pitch.

“That’s their job to sort that out for me.

“At the moment I just concentrate on playing well, whether it be for club or country.”

And when asked about potentially being in the shop window as a result of his impressive form, Roberts commented: “I’m not sure to be honest.

“I don’t really look to see if there’s any rumours.

“I just play my game and I’ve almost burst on to the scene.

“This time last season I was at Middlesbrough not playing, but it’s brilliant to be playing games for club and country.

“But like I say, that’s their job, the people who represent me off the field, they have to do their job and I have to do mine on the pitch.”

Roberts is once again set to link up with Wales for their games against Denmark and Albania over the international break.

He has featured in all 17 of Swansea’s Championship matches so far this season, scoring goals against Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers.

And ahead of the Swans’ triumph over Bolton on Saturday, Potter admitted that a conclusion to Roberts’ contract situation appears to be edging ever closer.

“As far as I know it is going well and not too far away,” he said.

“It’s crossing the Ts and dotting the Is. You don’t want to discuss too much publicly as some happen quickly and others not as they have to know it is right for them and their families.

“I’m not worried, it’s part of the process and Connor is happy here. He’s enjoying his football here and sees his future here.

“It’s about making sure everything is right for both parties.”
