Brexit will hit the worst-off

-

LETTER writer Dave Lees (Tuesday) criticises Chris Holley and myself for “repeating points already made” in our defence of the EU, but in doing so fails to recognise his own oft-repeated contra-arguments, which is healthy and democracy at work!

In his latest contribution he states “a referendum is a serious democratic matter” and one must “commit” to the vote.

This is a serious flaw in his argument as no-one has to commit to a process which was only “advisory”.

If he believes in the UK’S judiciary he should respect its highest court, which made this judgment.

Perhaps a moral case can be made for accepting the will of the electorate, but it cannot have any legal backing.

We cannot believe in morality on one hand and disregard all the false information we were fed before the vote, and pretend this was a democratic exercise. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Brexiteers in Wales have failed to address the extent of the EU funding of our region, and the Prime Minister has not committed the Government to make good any losses incurred if we leave the EU, which will inevitably hit the most vulnerable. Did anyone vote for that? DAVID L DAVIES Penclawdd
