SIX igloo-style pods where you can enjoy afternoon tea, chocolate fountains, prosecco and platters have now opened in Swansea Marina.

And what better day to open than on Beaujolais Day?

The owners of Quay Three in Swansea Marina first announced the exciting news in September and after weeks of building, the igloos, which are made from timber and plastic, are now open to the public.

The stylish pods include heating, LED lighting, bluetooth speaker systems, and are the first of their kind offered by a restaurant in Wales.

The pods fit between eight and 10 people and have two-hour time slots. They are available for private hire with a variety of drink and food options.

The menu features platters featuring a selection of handmade pizzas, tortillas, lemon and herb chicken skewers and more.

“There’s also a Christmas platter which includes lamb kofta kebabs, turkey and cranberry slider burgers.

Jason Hole, one of the three owners, has said that the aim of the pods is to create a social environment.

He said: “We have tried to think of all the little things that could go wrong, such as the food not being hot, so we have got a little mobile heater.

“We also have call buttons for waiter service.

“The aim of the pods is to set you up with large buckets of beer, prosecco or wine and we will leave you to it.

“It’s supposed to be a private social area and you buzz us when you want us.

“We had difficult weather up to this point, the only stressful part was putting the structures of the pods together in the wind and rain, but we are pleased with everything.

“It’s bigger than what we thought and it’s turned out nicely. The tables are also bigger because we constructed them ourselves.”

There’s also plans to have breakfast and brunch served in the pods, as well as an afternoon tea and meet and greet with Santa for children.

“The festive days for the kids will be on December 4, 11 and 17,” said Jason.

“We have had a great response from people about the igloos so far.

“I would love to do this next year but we will have to see how this goes before making any decisions to return.”

Prices start from £25 per person and the igloos will remain open until January 31, 2019.
