Two festive trees to grace the city centre

-

VISITORS to Swansea will be enjoying not one but two official Christmas trees all dressed up and ready to go for the start of the festive countdown tomorrow.

Santa will be performing the Christmas lights switch-on tomorrow afternoon after his time-travelling adventure through the city centre.

The trees have been sponsored by Gower College Swansea and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD). One is situated on Princess Way and the other is on the green at Castle Square.

The two real Norwegian fir trees are between 35ft and 40ft high, and are brightly lit and decorated.

Rob Stewart, leader of Swansea council, said: “Once again the council, together with our partners, will be taking the lead in ensuring there is a festive spirit throughout the city centre for residents, visitors and businesses.

“It’s brilliant that two of our leading higher and further education providers are sponsoring the trees because they’ve enabled us to introduce a second official Christmas tree for the first time to add to the visual festive treats on offer in the city centre.”

Cath Jenkins, director of employability at Gower College Swansea, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with City and County of Swansea to sponsor a citycentre Christmas tree.

“As a resident of the city centre, Gower College Swansea is proud to be at the heart of the festivities and raising awareness of the work we do at our Kingsway Centre supporting people seeking new or better work through our Better Jobs, Better Futures programme.”

Venerable Randolph Thomas, chairman of UWTSD Council, said: “The university is pleased to support Swansea Council’s initiative by sponsoring a Christmas tree. I hope that the trees and activities planned for the festive period will draw people into Swansea to support our shops and businesses.”
