Ice way to celebrate week of entrepreneurship

-

A MASSIVE ice sculpture has been carved at Swansea’s Castle Square, and the results are very impressive.

James Tottle, an experienced ice sculptor, carried out the project earlier this week as a celebration of creativity in the city.

It formed part of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s (UWTSD) events to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week 2018. Enterprise manager and associate professor in enterprise education at UWTSD, Kathryn Penaluna explained: “We gave our students the challenge of promoting UWTSD’S work and, of course, our world-leading International Institute IICED soon became a focus of their thinking.

“Creativity is as solid as ice in terms of what it offers, but creativity can be difficult to teach without experience; it relies on the teacher being able to develop a flow of thinking that can take a learner to new and exciting places.

“Melting ice is a symbolic representation of this, especially when the subject is hand-carved out of a solid block and the mysteries hidden within it first come into view. Until that moment only the ice artist knows what is inside, and just like a new creative thought, it all came together in a single moment of revelation.”

Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch start-ups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

During one week each November, GEW inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators.
